Like other cities on the Peninsula
Mountain View is faced with the
prospect of integrating high speed
rail lines through the City in the
current Caltrans right of way.  In order
to be pro-active in addressing the
concerns of the community the City
requested analyses of the different
rail alignments and there potential
impacts or opportunities.  

Two locations were analyzed- Central
Expressway/Rengstorff Ave and the
intersection of the vibrant Castro
Street and Central Expressway.  
Sketch analysis of best case
scenarios for each determined that
an open trench alignment with
gateway treatments would enhance
the connection and increase the
vitality of the downtown.  The analysis
and sketches were vital in the council
and the public’s understanding of the
visual impacts on their city.
